Prenups useful in divorce process for everyone, not just celebs

Prenuptial agreements were once mainly thought of as being necessary for the rich and famous. However, many matrimonial experts recommend them for many of their clients in California or elsewhere around the nation, regardless of their jobs or income levels. Should a couple get a divorce in the future, a prenup is an invaluable tool in the proceedings.

There seems to be an increased interest in prenups with the upcoming marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle overseas and whether or not they will sign one prior to marriage. Prenuptial agreements often deal with assets the couple brings to the relationship. However, they may address businesses, inheritances, child care or spousal support. Though these agreements are becoming more commonplace for the average couple, there are some interesting stipulations in some of the prenups of celebrity couples.

Khloe Kardashian reportedly felt that a prenup was important, no matter what a person's net worth was. That agreement was executed, following her divorce from Lamar Odom, though the details are unknown. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have stipulations in their prenup that awards Biel a sum of money if Timberlake has an affair. Beyonce's agreement awards her $5 million for every child she has with rapper Jay-Z.

Though no details are available, it has been reported that Jennifer Aniston had a prenup with Justin Theroux that would be hard to contest. Catherine Zeta-Jones would supposedly get $2.8 million for every year she was married to Michael Douglas, should they split. That would be a significant amount, since they have been married since 2000. Though Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren had a prenup before their marriage, it is believed that a renegotiation occurred following Woods' infidelity.

Celebrities are not the only couples that can benefit from prenuptial agreements. A couple planning to marry should contact a California divorce lawyer to assist them in developing an agreement. If a couple is already married, a postnuptial agreement can be developed that will provide the same protections.
